Pre-visualization allows us to creatively and technically iterate before we get on set, allowing us to reduce costs and improve the quality of the shots. Let’s share an example! We needed to bring the robot on location to a real kitchen but we didn’t need the robot in the kitchen to program the shots. We were able to simply capture a 3d scan of the kitchen, import it into our software, and program the shots in our own studio. We could even rehearse the shots ahead of time and fine tune it. Then when we got on set, most of the work was already done and we could focus on the performance and image, rather than technical troubleshooting.
It can range from 1 minute to 30 minutes or more, depending on the complexity of the shot. Most of the time is spent on lighting and styling. On average, we can get around 10 to 40 shots a day, depending on the complexity.
Small adjustments like position, orientation, keyframe interpolation and time remapping can be adjusted very quickly. Adjustments involving speed, target tracking, orbit and organic movement take longer.
Yes, the robot sits on a motorized base and can be transported and driven around. The legs of the robot slide out so it can drive through a standard doorway. It weighs 2500 lbs and is powered with 3-phase power. Generally, we will bring a generator to run it on set.
